He started honing his
skills early driving is Big Foot truck in our back yard at 2 years old. Tyler
started to slide the Big Foot any chance possible when the ground surface was slippery. He
also showed signs of responsibility when driving his sister around in the Big Foot being
careful not to hurt themselves.
Tyler started racing on computer games at about 2.5 years old nabbing any chance at Dad's
laptop when it was free to play. Tyler was first exposed to real racing when going to the
races to watch dad race dirt circle track in a limited sportsman's car and later in
a IMCA dirt Modified.
At 4.5 years old dad took little Tyler to the Red Bluff Outlaw's Kart races to see
what Tyler's response was when asked, "Do you want to do this?" he replied with
a big smile and said "Yea!" Just outside the race track door was waiting his
first Kart. Even a bigger smile now as he couldn't wait to get in the seat. I put him in
the seat and pushed him around as we didn't have a motor on it yet.
One week later we went to the race track for a closed practice session with track
promoter Bob Carrel. As I put all the race gear on Tyler and placed him in the car, he
was ready. More ready than I would ever know. Mom and Dad were nervous, I started the
motor and I could see Tyler just slam the throttle to the floor. From outside the Kart, I
stayed along side trying to pull the throttle back with my hand at the carburetor. I
pulled it apart twice before deciding to just let Tyler go...Finally I just let him go and
go did he. He never lifted through the first turn and then down the straight and into the
next turn....and still he had not lifted. Mom and Dad thought he would hit the wall and get hurt, but not so as he negotiated the
turn a little sideways but around he came and then he ran out of gas. Dad in the hurry and
excitement to get Tyler going forgot to fuel the Karts tank. So He knew
what racing was and knew what it took to go fast.
Ever since Tyler has never looked back as he loves racing every moment he can. Now
almost 4 years, 125 plus trophies and 10 Championships later, he is one of the most consistent
Box Stock drivers anywhere. Other Dad's often ask me how do I keep Tyler ready to go? and
I can only answer with "It's just Tyler, he's always ready to go...".
Tyler's competitive nature helps him to perform in school and other sports.
Tyler's national testing scores place him easily in the top 4% in Math,
Reading and Spelling. He is always ready and up to any challenge.
Tyler has been written about as being the West Coast's most active kid in racing
